Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about DealerScout.ai — how it works, your privacy, and getting started.

Privacy & Security

Why does Chrome say DealerScout.ai can "read and change my data on facebook.com"?

Chrome requires extensions to declare which websites they need access to. Because Facebook Marketplace is hosted on facebook.com, we have to request access to that domain. However, DealerScout.ai only activates on Facebook Marketplace. It can't see or change your messages, profile, photos, friends list, or any personal Facebook data. All analysis is performed on public listing information that's already visible on the page.

Does DealerScout.ai collect or store my personal data?

DealerScout.ai stores minimal data needed to operate: your email address (for authentication), classification results for listings you view, and known dealer records to improve detection accuracy. We do not collect browsing history, Facebook credentials, or any personal data beyond what's needed for the service. See our privacy policy for full details.

Does DealerScout.ai work on pages other than Facebook Marketplace?

No. DealerScout.ai only runs on Facebook Marketplace pages. On non-vehicle Marketplace pages, it shows a small pill suggesting you navigate to the vehicles section. On any other website, the extension is completely inactive — it does not inject any code or read any data.

How It Works

How does DealerScout.ai detect dealers?

DealerScout.ai uses a two-stage AI classification system. First, a shallow classification scans listing metadata (seller name, listing patterns, pricing) to quickly assign a badge: green for likely private seller, yellow for uncertain, and red for likely dealer. Second, when you click into a listing, a deep analysischecks the seller's inventory history, listing patterns, and other signals to produce a detailed scorecard with a confidence breakdown.

What do the color-coded badges mean?

Green ("Likely Private") means the AI is confident this is a private individual selling their vehicle. Yellow ("Uncertain") means the signals are mixed and you should investigate further. Red ("Likely Dealer")means the listing is very likely from a dealership or commercial seller. You can override any classification if you disagree with the AI's assessment.

How accurate is the dealer detection?

DealerScout.ai achieves approximately 95% accuracy on dealer vs. private seller classification. Accuracy improves over time as the system learns from more listings and user feedback. The two-stage analysis (shallow badge + deep scorecard) helps catch edge cases that a single-pass system would miss.

Getting Started

How do I install DealerScout.ai?

Install DealerScout.ai from the Chrome Web Store. After installation, the extension automatically redirects you to a welcome page with step-by-step setup instructions. You can also visit dealerscout.ai/welcome at any time to review the setup guide.

Does DealerScout.ai work on mobile or other browsers?

DealerScout.ai is currently a Chrome extension and works on desktop versions of Google Chrome. It does not work on mobile browsers, the Facebook mobile app, or other desktop browsers like Firefox or Safari. Chromium-based browsers like Brave and Edge may work but are not officially supported.

Do I need a Facebook account to use DealerScout.ai?

Yes. DealerScout.ai works as an overlay on Facebook Marketplace, so you need to be logged into Facebook to browse listings. DealerScout.ai does not access your Facebook credentials — it only analyzes the public listing data visible on the page.

Troubleshooting

The extension isn't showing up on Facebook Marketplace. What should I do?

First, make sure you're on a Facebook Marketplace vehicles page (the URL should contain /marketplace/ and you should see vehicle listings). DealerScout.ai only activates on vehicle listing pages, not on the general Marketplace homepage or non-vehicle categories. Also check that you're signed in — click the DealerScout.ai icon in your toolbar to verify your authentication status. If the icon isn't in your toolbar, visit chrome://extensions and make sure DealerScout.ai is enabled.

Why do some listings show as "Uncertain" instead of a clear classification?

Some sellers have mixed signals — for example, a private individual who has listed multiple vehicles, or a small dealer who uses a personal Facebook account. The "Uncertain" badge means the AI found conflicting signals and recommends you check the listing manually. You can click into the listing for a detailed scorecard that breaks down exactly which signals were found.
